Athletic Club vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Atletico Madrid celebrate vs Liverpool

Atletico Madrid travel to Bilbao to face Athletic Club at San Mames in La Liga on Sunday afternoon.

Diego Simeone's side enjoyed a famous win in their last competitive match beating Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League, but domestically they have struggled on the road.

Los Rojiblancos have won just three of their 13 away games this term and this weekend they travel to an Athletic side who are notoriously tough to beat at home.

The Basques have lost just three of their last 27 home league games and bet365 price them at 11/4 (3.75) to win on Sunday.

Atletico ran out 2-0 winners when the sides met in Madrid in October and another success for Simeone's men is offered at 6/5 (2.20) with the draw at 19/10 (2.90).

The hosts are without defender Inigo Lekue, who has an ankle problem, while veteran striker Aritz Aduriz retired last month after struggling with injury all season.

Otherwise,Gaizka Garitano has a fully fit squad to choose from. Atletico are without Joao Felix who is suspended while right-back Sime Vrsaljko is out injured.

The statistics clearly point to a low-scoring game in Bilbao with both sides having problems in front of goal while boasting solid defences.

Athletic have the best home defensive record in La Liga having conceded just seven goals at San Mames in 13 games.

However their total of 15 goals scored at home is the fourth worst in the division, with Garitano's men failing to score in three of their last five home matches.

Atletico for their part have netted just 11 goals on the road this season, only three sides have scored fewer, while conceding just 12 which is the second best record in the division.

With two goal-shy but defensively well-drilled sides meeting in the first game back after an extended break, the obvious selection must be opposing goals.

Under 2.5 goals is priced at just 2/5 (1.40) which gives an idea of how tight this game is expected to be.

Backing a goalless first half at 6/5 (2.20) seems like a more appealing option, while opposing a goal to be scored before 37 minutes at 5/6 (1.83) could also be of interest.
