Premier League Betting: Liverpool favourites to win title after record-breaking win

Liverpool set a new club record for unbeaten home games in the top-flight when they beat Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday night, making it 64 matches since they last lost a Premier League fixture at Anfield.

Aside from the ignominious 7-2 thrashing they received at Aston Villa in October, Jurgen Klopp’s men have been almost as imperious as they were last term with six wins and two draws from nine games.

Their tally of 20 points puts them level with Tottenham but some way behind them on goal difference, thanks largely to the aforementioned defeat at Villa Park.

The victory over Leicester marks Liverpool’s biggest of the season and just their second clean sheet, with defensive solidity taking a hit due to the long-term injuries of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Klopp’s champions have been either favourites or second-favourites all season to win the league again, but this is the first time they have been significantly clear of Manchester City, who are next in the betting market at 5/2 (3.50).

Pep Guardiola’s men were somewhat below par last season by their lofty standards, finishing second but still 17 points behind the champions, and are yet to impress this term either.

City have picked up only 12 points from eight games to sit in the bottom half of the table, most recently losing 2-0 at Tottenham and tallying only 10 goals in that time.

Despite the bookmakers expecting a two-horse race between Liverpool and Man City, this has clearly been proven to not be the case with Spurs in to 5/1 (6.0) to win a first Premier League title.

Jose Mourinho’s side were as long as 80/1 (81.0) back in September following their 1-0 defeat against Everton on the opening day of the season, but have shortened each week since then and have now won their four most recent fixtures.

Chelsea are two points behind Spurs and are also 5/1 (6.0) after establishing defensive prowess with Edouard Mendy in net, keeping four clean sheets in his five Premier League games so far to establish themselves as title contenders.
