Manchester United target Maddison signs new four-year deal at Leicester City worth £110,000-a-week
Leicester City have agreed a deal to renewJames Maddison's contract, Goal can reveal, keeping him at the club until 2024 after months of talks with their star man.
This puts him alongside Jamie Vardy as one of the Foxes' top earners, but only adds an extra year to his contract which was due to expire in 2023.
It is understood that Maddison has long agreed to commit to his future at the King Power Stadium, but the details have only just emerged with no official announcement having yet been made.
United have long switched focus from signing Maddison to their priority target, Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho, who is interested in moving the talks forward having seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side qualify for the Champions League.
The Old Trafford club confirmed their status in next season's competition by beating Leicester 2-0 in their 38th and final league game of the season thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard.
Leicester ended the season finishing fifth after spending most of the 2019-20 Premier League campaign amongthe top four and will now play next season in the Europa League.
Still, the Foxes remain ambitious for the future despite a poor run in 2020 which saw them fail in their top four challengein the final days of the season.
Along with Maddison, his close friend Ben Chilwell has been subject to intense transfer interest, withChelsea interested in making a lucrative summer move to strengthen their left-back position.
Frank Lampard has long made the England full-back a prime transfer target but the Midlands club have resisted the Blues' approaches at every turn.
It is expected that a fee akin to the £80 million ($102m)Man United paid for Harry Maguire is needed to open dialogue between the two clubs who have so far not been close to each other's valuations.
